General Questions

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy combines the science of healing with the art of caring with a hands-on approach to healthcare.  Physical Therapists evaluate your movement patterns, identify the cause of your pain, and work to eliminate it.  While every patients pain is unique, the physical therapist may use various techniques to decrease your pain.  As your pain decreases, the therapist will progress to prescribing stretching and strengthening exercises specific to your needs.  The overall goal is to restore your mobility and function with improved joint protection to prevent injury from recurring.

What can I expect at my first visit to Hayashida & Associates?

The first visit is comprised of the initial evaluation and part of that process requires that you fill out paperwork regarding your health history, information regarding the current health situation that you are seeking treatment for, and health insurance. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to your scheduled appointment to allow time to complete this paper work. A licensed physical therapist will then proceed through the evaluation process regarding your current condition and discuss the findings and outcomes, which may result in a few home exercises. The therapist will also discuss your goals during your course of physical therapy treatment.

What should I wear to physical therapy?

We recommend that you wear an outfit that is comfortable and allows for easy movement. The area of the body that will be treated should be fairly accessible. Shorts or sweat pants, warm ups, T-shirts, etc. are all good clothing options for land based therapy.

How long will my treatments be?

The initial evaluation is one hour in length and the treatment sessions are generally 30—45 min. in duration from then on.

How long will I need to be going to physical therapy?

This depends on the type of injury sustained or the condition to be treated. Commonly, treatments are scheduled two or three days per week. The duration of your physical therapy course is dependent upon your condition and the recommendations of your referring physician and therapist.
